Dumfries is the traditional county town of historic Dumfriesshire, also known as ‘Queen of the South’. As a market town and formal royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway constituency, it resides near the River Nith.
Did you know Dumfries is steeped in history? Sanquhar, a village in Dumfries, is home to the oldest post office in the world, opening in 1738, as well as Scotland’s oldest working theatre, the Dumfries Theatre Royal.

Here you can complete a 4.8km circular trail by foot or bike, immersing yourself in Scotland’s fabulous forestry.
