Don't Let Skye Go Dry
Water is always worth saving
Have you noticed the weather lately? Due to climate change, we’re seeing more extreme weather all across Scotland. It rains ‘cats and dogs’, raising the risk of floods. Or it’s weirdly warm – the month of May was the hottest on record. All of which makes managing Scotland’s water harder.
In Skye, the challenge isn’t so much about the amount of water we have at source. The real issue we face is treating and distributing enough water to all our customers and visitors throughout the year.
So, you may have noticed our latest campaign posters popping up across Skye. We’re asking everyone not to waste water.
Many of Skye’s communities are served by small water systems. These can be stretched at busy times, for example, in the tourist season.
Our publicity drive aims to highlight Scotland’s precious natural resources. We want everyone – residential customers and visitors alike – to only use the water they need. Whether that’s fixing dripping taps and leaky loos in your home, or letting us know about any leaks in the streets.
While it may have been a wet start to 2024, water is always worth saving. As our weather becomes more unpredictable, we all need to work together to protect this precious publicly-owned resource.
